To commemorate the Golden Jubilee, the Chamber settled a trust in June 1990. This trust declares annual Award of Excellence for outstanding contribution to individuals and institutions in the field of Exports, Imports Substitution, Productivity, Research & Development, Energy Conservation and Social Welfare.

Reliance Industries Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Export Performance in Large Scale Sector for Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals. Reliance exported Polypropylene (PP), Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) and Paraxylene (PX). Their growth has impact on the order of things in India & world. They are accounted among the leading corporations of the world. They have exported Chemicals & Plastics worth Rs. 32,691 crores, which is 37% of its gross turnover, in the year 2005-06.
 
2. Award for Outstanding performance in
Diamond & Jewellery (Large Scale Industry)

J. B. & Brothers has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Export Performance in Large Scale Sector for Diamond & Jewellery. J.B. & Brothers are leading manufacturer and exporter of diamond and gold studded jewellery. They are a lead exporter of cut & polished diamonds to Australia, Japan, UAE, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Israel, Belgium, UK, USA & many other countries. J. B. & Brothers are 100% EOU involved in Actual Direct Exports. In the year 2005-06 they have exported diamonds worth Rs.788 crores.
 
3. Award for Outstanding performance in  Textiles ( Small / Medium Scale Industry) M/s Vikram Knittex Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Mahesh Kumar Agrawal,  Director
   
Vikram Knittex Pvt. Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Export Performance in Small Scale Sector for Textiles. They are the exporters of Synthetic fabrics & sarees made from man-made 100% polyester filament yarn. They have exported 38.21 lacs mts. of Textile products valued at Rs.23.90 crores mainly to France, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Shrilanka, UAE & UK in the year 2005-06.
 
4. Award for Outstanding performance in 
Diamond & Jewellery ( Small / Medium Scale Industry)

D. K. Jewellers, Surat has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Export Performance in Small Scale Sector for Diamond & Jewellery. They have exported Gold and Silver jewellery consisting of earrings, bangles, bracelets, watch belts & statues of Gods & Goddesses, worth Rs.90.39 lacs to USA. They are the lead manufacturer of gold ornaments & silver articles.

Engineering Goods ( Small / Medium Scale Industry)

Jydeep Industries has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Export Performance in Small Scale Sector for Engineering Goods. Jaydeep Industries having established at Katargam since 1995, are manufacturing tin & nickel plated Inserted Twisted Steel Wire Healds. They have exported 78.43 lacs pieces of healds valued at Rs. 1.02 crores to the countries like Canada, Netherlands, UK, USA, Iran & Taiwan in the year 2005-06.

Sahajanand Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Export Performance in Medium Scale Sector for Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals. Sahajanand has a unique distinction of exporting 9599 nos. of Bare Stents, Mounted Stents & Drug Eluting Stents valued at Rs. 24.67 crores to the countries like Canada, Brazil, Dubai, USA, Netherlands, Turkey, Indonesia & Syria & many other countries in the year 2005-'06.
 
GENERAL
1. Awards for Outstanding Performance in Pollution Control Reliance Industries Ltd., Hazira Mr. Hemant Desai President-Commercial & Corporate Affairs
   
Reliance Industries Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Performance in Pollution Control for the year 2005-06. Their initiatives towards Environment Protection and Sustainable Development are noteworthy. Their overall effluent treatment philosophy consists of four 'R's, viz. Reduce, Recycle, Recover and Reuse. They have taken effective measures for water, energy, oil & soil conservation. Reliance has complied fully with GPCB norms through out the year. Reliance has given due consideration to environmental aspects by selecting clean manufacturing technologies. Minimum waste generation per unit output, low emission of pollutant, low noise pollution level during plant operation are the outcome of their philosophy. They are committed to fullyenvironmental compliance, innovative measures for conservation of natural resources & spread environmental awareness among all stakeholders through training. They have also used non-conventional energy sources very effectively.
 
2. Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Energy Conservation Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Mr. R.G.Kulkarni GM-Manufacturing
   
Larsen & Toubro Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Energy Conservation for the year 2005-06. Their focused approach to saving of energy is in Electrical Energy Distribution & Consumption, Lighting, Compressed Air, Thermal Energy, In-house R & D and in Non-Conventional Sources of Energy. Usage of full wave rectifiers, introduction of variable voltage & variable frequency drive, usage of precision air-conditioner units, refurbishing of stress relieving furnace, conversion of DG set into dual fuel operation, use of natural ventilators, natural lighting and energy monitoring has reduced their energy cost in terms of manufacturing cost to 2.69% in the year 2005-06 from 4.01% in year 2004-05. During this year they have invested Rs.79.40 lacs which will result in annual savings of Rs.158 lacs with a payback period of 6 months.
 
3. Awards for Excellence in Improving Productivity NTPC Ltd. Mr. S. K. De GM
   
NTPC Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Excellence in Improving Productivity for the year 2005-06. Increase in Energy Generation to 2822 GWH, increase in Plant Load Factor (PLF) to 50.18%, increase in machine availability to 97.84%, increase in utilization of plant capacity to 76% and reduction in cost of production to 84.38% have contributed in overall improvement of productivity at NTPC in the year 2005-06.
 
4. Awards for Outstanding work in R & D (1)  Essar Steel Ltd. Mr. S.K.Tiwari GM - R & D.
   
Essar Steel Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Work in R & D for the year 2005-06. Producer of 5 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) of sponge iron, Essar has improvised and introduced technology at their Hot Briquette Iron Plant, Hot Rolled Coils Plant and at Cold Rolling Complex. Their major efforts are directed towards new product development, cost reduction, quality improvement and value-addition. They have made remarkable development in the field of line pipe steel for sour service application. For auto-sector they have developed high strength material in lower thickness. In year 2005-06 they have developed API quality steel in grade X-60 for sour service, High strength steel in dual phase for auto sector and high strength low alloy steel in galvanized condition. This development is done by optimizing product chemistry and using simulation and mathematical modeling.
 
    (2) Sahajanand Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd.  
   
Sahajanand Medical Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Work in R & D for the year 2005-06. With the vision of 'Pledged to Save Millions' company has embarked upon the journey of putting together technological innovation and team of highly dedicated professionals to research and develop coronary stents domestically. They are first to introduce Drug Eluting Stents with Bio-Degradable Polymer Technology and Nano-Technology. They have acquired many patents, trademarks and IPR for various types of coronary stents.
 
5. Awards for Outstanding Utilisation of Communications & IT The Surat People's Co-operative Bank Ltd. Mr. Jayvadan Bodawala Chairman
   
The Surat Peoples' Co-Op. Bank Ltd. has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Utilization of Communication and Information Technology for the year 2005-06. "People's Bank in a Real Sense" - has IT infrastructure in proper order which includes Hardware, O.S., Database, Application Software, Network Components, Communication Media, and Power. Their customer centric approach led them to introduce Anywhere Branch Banking. Their network of 19 branches enables customers to carry out banking needs from anywhere. Bank has introduced ATM, View Account Kiosks, Mobile Banking and Cheque Deposit Machine for their customers.
 
6. Awards for Outstanding work done for trade & industry by an association Indian Medical Association, Surat Branch Dr. Chandresh Jardosh Hon. Secretary
   
Indian Medical Association, Surat Branch has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Work Done for Trade & Industry by an Association for the year 2005-06. IMA, Surat Branch has organized continuous CME to educate all its members. As a part of its ongoing prevention, awareness and treatment programme against HIV & AIDS they organized lectures for all ESIS, Govt. Doctors, GP's and Industrial Doctors. Various developmental seminars were organized for all their members. They arranged 'Emergency Medicine Conference' for the benefit of all citizens. They prepared themselves in 'Disaster Management' by organizing mock drill, giving lessons in emergency medical aid. They trained staff of various hospitals to increase the level of medical care in this region. They guided their members on financial & legal management. They were also involved in many cultural activities, entertainment, sports, social and community activities.
 
7. Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Social Welfare Programmes Surat Manav Seva Sangh (Chhaydo) Bharatbhai Shah VP
   
Surat Manav Seva Sangh has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Achievement in Social Welfare Programme. A public trust registered under Bombay Public Trust Act, is involved in numerous social service activities. Believer of 'True Religion is Service to Mankind'. This trust has been working to serve 'Unto the Last'. They offer meal service, rest room facility, medicines at concessional rate and medical equipments to not only patients of Civil Hospital and Saibaba Cancer Hospital, but also to any one approaching them, at any time. They also give sanitary materials to new born infants. Ladies in the Gynecology center are given nutrious meal after their delivery. They also provide ambulance service to needy persons irrespective of their caste, creed and religion. They readily serve society in any natural calamity.
 
8. Awards for Chief Executive Officer of the year Shri Pankaj Joshi, IAS  
   
Shri Pankaj Joshi, IAS, Ex-Commissioner of Surat has been presented with an Award for Outstanding Chief Executive Officer for the year 2005-06. After having acquired, B.Tech. in Civil Engineering and M.Tech. in Water Resources from IIT Delhi, he joined IAS in 1993. During his tenure in year 2005-06 as a Commissioner at Surat Municipal Corporation he undertook projects for Surat city under JNNURM. He executed projects worth Rs.267 crores for Urban Infrastructure & Urban Governance. He also sanctioned projects worth Rs.381.59 crores for providing Basic Services to Urban Poor. He has been an able administrator, who worked relentlessly towards betterment of civic services and utilities.
 
9.  Awards for Outstanding Performance as a Business Person Shri Sevantibhai Shah Mr. Sevantibhai Shah, Founder Partner - Venus Jewel
